Staple Herbs & Spices You Need In Your Kitchen

Many people think healthy eating is bland and boring, however it doesn't have to be! Having a kitchen well equipped with different spices is going to make all the difference in each of your meals. The thing I love about spices is they are cheap, easy to store and can be used in a variety of ways and combinations! I have put together a list of my favourite spices which I think everyone should have in their kitchen. Remember it's all about using your imagination and getting creative!

Oregano
I love using oregano in all sorts of dishes. I use it to add flavour to my grilled chicken breast, put it in my homemade tzatziki and sprinkle over roast veggies. It is also great sprinkled over a tomato cut in half and baked in the oven with some salt & pepper.

Rosemary
Rosemary tastes amazing on roasted vegetables and meats. When I make roasted potatoes I will sprinkle some rosemary on, then top them with a little white balsamic vinegar when they come out of the oven.

Cajun Seasoning
You can either buy this pre mixed or make your own. I love this seasoning on chicken, prawns and fish. Mix a little with some fresh lime juice and coriander, and you have the perfect marinade for your white meat.

Smoked Paprika
I love using smoked paprika to add a little flavour to my roast veggies. It is also great in curries and other sauces. Recently I have been mixing polenta and paprika as a coating for my chicken, so good!

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is great for your body, it has been known to reduce blood sugar levels. Use it in protein pancakes, or simply infuse a stick into your tea of choice - just make sure you use it sparingly.

Cumin
This spice is great if you are a fan of indian inspired dishes. It tastes delicious with ginger and garlic to coat chicken and add flavour to various types of curries.

Chilli Powder or Flakes
This is one of those essentials that can be used in a huge amount of dishes. Even if you are not a big fan of heat, just adding a tiny bit to any dish will help lift its flavour. My favourite way to use chilli is on sautéed vegetables and asian style dressings and dipping sauces.

Garlic Flakes Or Garlic Powder
Garlic tastes good with everything!! Add it into marinades for chicken and steak, stir fry's, sauces, and to flavour your vegetables.

Coriander
This is a great herb to keep on hand if you like Mexican or Asian style dishes. I use it in most of my chicken marinades, curries and stir fry's.

These are just a few of my favourites girls! The options out there are endless, stock up on what appeals to you and get creative!
