Starting your morning right has never been more important, there are things you can actually do to facilitate weight loss before you even have lunch! So many people rush through their mornings due to lack of planning and preparedness. Try these 8 things and see how your weight changes, not to mention your mood!
Catch The Rays
The first thing you should do when you wake up is open your curtains or blinds. Not only does this brighten your mood and kickstart your day, it has an energising effect. It can also help drop kilos, a recent study showed that people who had more exposure to sunshine had a lower BMI. Why? Morning rays may help synch up your body clock so your metabolism gets into the groove sooner and it aids your sleep schedule, which is crucial for weight loss. The best way to get your rays is to go for an early morning walk, this will put you in a good mood and kick start your metabolism for ultimate weight loss potential.
So you should know by now that going breakfast-less is a surefire way to put on kilos. There is a lot of emphasis on eating your healthy carbs at breakfast to get your metabolism started, well you should also add protein. The carb and protein combo at breakfast is a weight blasting one, you will feel fuller for longer and eat less at lunch time. Protein also gives you energy and helps you resist junk food cravings, whilst keeping your blood sugar levels steady. For an appetising breakfast try rye bread with poached eggs, spinach and tomato or protein pancakes using a whey powder.
Work It Out
Didn't think you were a morning person? This might just convince you to change that. Working out in the morning helps to boost your metabolism, reduces junk food cravings, makes you feel happy and accomplished. You don't have to complete a long intense, one hour workouts that make you want to crawl back into bed. Even 20 minutes of walking, stretching or on the spot training will do the trick! Working out in the morning will also help to keep you more active throughout the day - I'll take that!
Water Is Your Bestie
Eating a solid breakfast will help to fill you up, but water also keeps you hydrated and flushes out toxins. Drinking a tall glass of water should be the first thing you do when you wake up! It will help to fill you up and get your body ready for a new day. For added detoxification add some slices of lemon and even a pinch of cayenne pepper if you dare!
Get More Zzz’s
Getting enough sleep is crucial to weight-loss. If you don't get enough sleep it drives leptin levels down, which means you don't feel as satisfied after you eat. It also causes ghrelin levels to rise, meaning your appetite is stimulated causing you to want to eat more food. Whether it be going to bed earlier or waking up a little later, many people underestimate the benefits a good sleep has. If you continually lack sleep it can seriously stuff up your hormones, not to the mention you will be irritable and grumpy - not ideal!
Walk, Walk, Walk
Whether you attend work or school, try to incorporate some form of walking to get there. If you don't live close enough to walk, try park 10 minutes away or get off at a further stop so you can walk part of the way. Walking is a great way to burn fat and if you do it before midday you will power up your metabolism and burn extra calories before your day has really started.
Pack Your Snacks
Admit it, the vending machine is pretty tempting come 3 o'clock when you are just about over the day and ready to rip your hair out, then the hunger monster strikes. Instead of reaching for a packet of chips or a coke, try to pack your own snacks. Yes I know, it takes extra time in the morning, so maybe choose to go to sleep earlier rather than wake up later as advised above. It really does make a difference to your weight though - the more snacks you have around you, the less likely you are to eat junk food, and you’ll also save yourself a ton of money. My favourites go-to snacks are apples with peanut butter, almonds, bananas, or hummus and veggie sticks.
Get Your Mood In Check
If you want to lose weight, you need to be mindful of what you are doing. It is all about being focused, driven and taking a proactive approach to your life. Don't wake up late, skip breakfast and run out of the house stressed like a headless chicken. These will set you up for a day of bad eating habits and mood swings. Instead, wake up and be aware of what you are doing, pack your food, take time to breathe, go for a walk. If you don't put the effort in, the results you want to see won't come!
