Want To Lose Weight Fast?
Want to lose weight fast? This question seems to be thrown around a lot in the health and weight loss industry these days. We are surrounded by products that promise you a ‘6 pack’ or ‘toned booty’ in such a short amount of time. In my opinion, it’s beginning to get a little ridiculous! While some of these things may assist you, it’s almost always in the short-term and that leads me to ask the question “is this actually helping your weight loss efforts in the long run?”
I want to talk about how ‘losing weight fast’ may not necessarily be the best thing for your health, but firstly and most importantly I want to challenge the idea that weight loss is a ‘fast’ thing to achieve.
I believe this type of mentality can be damaging, not only physically but also mentally. Whether you are wanting to lose weight for health reasons or to tone up because you don't feel happy and confident, there should never be a time limit on achieving that. We as girls especially often feel pressured to have a certain look or certain body type. We are surrounded by “models” and other influencers on social media who we not only look up to, but think that is the way we need to physically look. Add the word “weight loss” into the mix and this suddenly seems like something that has to be achieved immediately, or else we may never reach that “ideal look”.
I strongly believe that being healthy and confident isn’t just ONE look, it’s not one certain body type or a set of rules that you have to follow. Confidence is achieved through being happy in your own skin, and loving your own body. We are all unique individuals and that should be celebrated, you can use someone else as your motivation, but never focus on looking solely like them. Our bodies are all made differently and I want you girls to remember we are all special in our own right, as long as you love yourself - that is all that matters.
Whilst they may not be extremely damaging as a once-off, following fad diets and detoxes can lead to unhealthy habits, such as yo-yo dieting, which can potentially lead to weight gain rather than weight loss. Many of these pages promising fast results are based on restricting yourself, generally your diet, and some can even include grueling exercise regimes.
The most important thing to remember is that these types of diets are not healthy nor sustainable. Yes, you may lose some weight in a few days if you cut out entire food groups, but are you really happy? Is it truly worth it? Do you feel healthy?
Another thing I want to point out is that if you think about how many times people stop and start yo-yo diets over their lifetime - it tends to add up to a LOT. As I said before, these types of diets aren't healthy or sustainable in the long term. What I want you girls to remember is that doing these sorts of yo-yo diets and quick fixes may be less efficient than slowly losing weight over a certain period of time. These fads may cause your weight to fluctuate rapidly between these phases and this is where you may start to feel unhappy and dejected, plus your metabolism may start to slow down.
My top tips for losing weight?
Take it slow!
I know this may not be what you are wanting to hear, but trust me you will be SO much happier and better off in the long run! Forget about the social pressure attached to “losing weight quickly”! It is ridiculous and totally unnecessary. Have you just had a baby? That's amazing! Take your time and let your body rest and heal itself before starting any sort “weight loss” program. The key is to achieve this in a manner that will benefit you, not harm you.
Life is all about balance, and I always say that if you are depriving yourself you may never achieve your goal because you are bound to feel unhappy and defeated at one point or another. Instead, try to think about weight loss as a positive. Take your time, put in the effort and dedication and it will come. If you take a look at all the amazing girls in the BBG Community who have used my guides, most of them have achieved their incredible results over an extended period of time.
If you don't exercise at all, start off small. Set yourself weekly goals you can easily accomplish, such as going for a walk every second day and maybe attending a class at your local gym. If the idea of joining a gym sounds daunting, you can try something like my new app, which you can use from the comfort of your own home.
When it comes to food, balance is KEY. Eat clean, healthy and wholesome foods that are going to nourish your body. Your body is the basis for your whole life. If you fill it with rubbish, you will feel like rubbish. Once you begin to remove all the processed and artificial foods from your diet, your body will thank you. However this doesn't mean you can’t occasionally indulge in a piece of your favourite cake!
Put in the hard work, time and effort and you will see the results - I promise! Don’t be fooled by clever marketing schemes that promise weight loss in absurd numbers such as five days or less. It is time to start loving and nourishing our bodies, rather than body shaming ourselves!
Love, Kayla xx
