4 Energy-Rich Foods To Enjoy

While all food gives us energy, some foods are a little better at giving you a boost. If you find you’re hitting a slump in the middle of the day, then try adding some energy-boosting foods to your diet. Eating these ‘high-energy’ foods in the right amounts can help increase your energy levels throughout the day.

Dates

Dates can help your body to metabolise carbs, protein and fats, thanks to the B-vitamins they contain. This helps your body turn food into energy, particularly when combined with the other nutrients found in dates. Potassium, calcium, manganese, copper and iron can all work to give your energy level a boost too. While dates provide a dose of natural sweetness, their fibre content can help to keep your blood sugar stable.

Nuts

Nuts make such a great snack when you’re feeling a little worn out! Choose your favourite, like almonds, pistachios or walnuts, and snack on them when you are looking for a quick energy hit. With a mix of healthy fat and protein, nuts can help to balance your blood sugar level too. Rather than drinking a cup of coffee to keep you going, try refuelling with a small serve of nuts.

Avocado

I talk about avocados being a source of ‘healthy fats’ a lot, but did you know that they can affect your energy levels? Avocados contain monounsaturated fat, which your body uses for energy, rather than storing it as fat. As a source of folate, vitamins C and B6, as well as niacin, avocados can help your body to fight fatigue.

Salmon

Not just a source of protein, salmon contains vitamin B6, niacin and riboflavin. These all help your body to convert food into energy. And of course, salmon is a great source of Omega 3s too. Serve it up with some spinach for a little extra iron and you are giving your body the tools to keep going through a busy day.

I’m a big believer that the best source of energy for your body comes from natural food sources! Rather than relying on caffeine or sugar to keep you going throughout the day, choosing natural energy-rich foods provides your body with nutrients and vitamins that it needs. By snacking and eating meals that include all of the food groups, you give your body the fuel it needs to stay energised.

Try adding some of these energy-boosting foods to your diet and see if you notice a difference in how much energy you have!
