My Skincare Routine
My Skincare Routine
A few weeks ago, I asked you ladies what questions you wanted me to answer. The response was kind of crazy, I got so many great questions! I answered the ones that came up the most (you can read my FAQ blog here), but I decided to expand on one of my answers a little bit more.
I’ve written about my skincare routine before, but like most women, it does change a little. I also want to stress that while this routine and these products work for me right now, everyone’s skin is different. Remember that skin care is not one-size-fits-all!
My everyday routine
I make sure I always remove my makeup before bed! Your skin needs some time to breathe and renew itself, which it does when you sleep. If you leave makeup on, it can also lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
To remove makeup, especially after a photoshoot, I use a micellar water. I then cleanse TWICE with a cleanser for oily skin. One I’ve been using for a while is Cetaphil, because it is really gentle on my skin and cheap! After I’ve cleansed, I make sure to moisturise my skin. Moisturising is so important, even if you have oily skin! If you don’t, your skin may dry out, which may cause it to produce MORE oil to treat the dryness.
I use a hydrating moisturiser twice a day (morning and night) to keep my skin supple, and I mix in two drops of Marula oil before applying it. Marula oil is something I’ve started using recently, it hydrates and has antimicrobial properties to help reduce free radical damage (from exposure to pollution or the sun). At night, I follow the same routine, adding a night serum twice a week. One of my favourite brands I’m loving at the moment is Drunk Elephant! They have a great oil, moisturiser and night serum.
For my body, I use a body scrub every few days and each day I use a body moisturiser all over. When it comes to tanning products, I like Envy U Skin tanning foams.
To help keep my skin looking bright and healthy, every 8 days I do a mini-facial. At the moment I’m using another product from Drunk Elephant called Babyfacial, which helps get rid of dead skin cells. You put it on then leave it for 20 minutes and it helps to soften any build-up on your skin. I feel like after I wash it off, my face looks brighter and feels smoother.
Once a month, or before a big event, I give my skin a bit more love! Your skin naturally regenerates around every 28 days, but this can slow down as you get older. A little pamper session at home can get rid of the nasty stuff that builds up on the skin. My skin can also get really dry when I travel, so it sometimes needs a little extra attention when I land. You might have read that I recently used Ole Henriksen’s Power Peel when I was travelling, and I loved it!
My top skincare tips:
- I always cleanse twice to remove all makeup.
- When washing your face, focus on the spots under your chin and around your jaw line. I even wash over my ears and up to the edge of my hairline!
- Don’t skip moisturiser, even if you have oily skin.
- ALWAYS use sunscreen if you are going outside.
- If you aren’t sure how to use fake tan products on your face, you can try mixing it into your nightly moisturiser.
Now, you all know I’m going to tell you one of the best things you can do for your skin is to drink lots of water and eat good food! I’ve blogged before about what to eat for glowing skin, so it’s important to focus on good health inside to get the skin you want on the outside.
There’s nothing better than chilling out with a face mask on, or that feeling of washing your face at the end of the day. Do you ladies have a regular routine to care for your skin?
Love, Kayla xx
