Meet BBG Community Member Brittany

One of the things I’ve learned during my time as a personal trainer for women is that starting your fitness journey from a place of self-love is SO important.

That’s why I was so excited to speak to BBG Community member Brittany (you can find her on Instagram as @fitbrit2020). Her story of making her health and fitness a priority might be familiar to many of you, but it’s her message about loving yourself that I found really inspirational, and I’m so happy I get to share it — meet Brittany!

‘Love yourself at every size, every shape and every step of your journey’

Brittany: My name is Brittany Rae. I am 26 years old and I live in Oakland, California, and I've been doing BBG for almost a year. November will be my one year.

Me: What does your day and workout routine look like?

Brittany: My job and day job is that I am a buyer for Stitch Fix. So I actually buy women's active clothing. So it's literally perfect; a perfect job for me. I love the job, but it's really demanding. So I really have to be intentional about making time for my workout.

Me: What barriers have you pushed through in your life?

Brittany: The day that I really realised that something in my life had to change, I was at my friend's wedding, I just had this great day. And then I looked at the pictures and was like: “Oh my gosh, is that what I look like?”. There was so much distance between like, my internal understanding of myself, and what I thought I looked like when I looked at that photo. I just realised that although I was smiling in that picture, like there was so much going on beneath the surface.

Me: What did your journey back to fitness look like?

Brittany: Styles of movement that I have participated in have evolved a lot. So I actually started as a dancer and did a lot of modern and ballet training, and jazz training. And then I actually fell in love with yoga. It felt like, although I was moving my body, there was this element of strength that I wasn't really getting from my yoga practice. And I really wanted to incorporate more strength training and more HIIT-style training. And literally at that time was when you launched BBG beginner; which was like divine timing. It was like perfectly aligned.

Me: What did you think of the BBG Zero Equipment workout?

Brittany: My initial thoughts when I first saw BBG zero equipment was “new moves”. I was so excited to see new moves. I was so excited that they were like more dynamic, compound movements.

Me: 70 new moves —  70 new ones!

Brittany: Yeah! I love them. For me, time is my biggest constraint, so I love that with the BBG program — and specifically with BBG Zero Equipment — it's quick. I finished in 26 minutes, I think. And I felt like I got a full-body workout. I feel so strong after a workout. I almost feel like I have more energy after the workouts than I do going into them.

Me: Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

Brittany: If I could talk to that version of myself at the wedding, I would tell her to “love yourself at every size, every shape and every step of your journey”. I think we can be so hard on ourselves as we're going on journeys like this, and committing to real change, and I just have so much gratitude looking back, for every single step, every workout. There were times when I didn't, you know, I didn't know if I could go on. And just like, those moments, where I just spoke lovingly to myself, I feel like these were the moments where I was really able to experience breakthroughs and become stronger, and become more confident and more resilient. Like, I feel like BBG has helped me build resilience and grit. And so I would just tell her to love herself at every moment, every step and really speak more lovingly to myself. Give myself like a little bit more compassion.

You don’t need to spend a lot of time working out to get results

If you are ready to make a change in your life — just like Brittany was — my BBG Zero Equipment program has been designed to be flexible so it fits in with YOUR schedule.

There are six different workouts available each week (the goal is to complete three or four, depending on which week of the program you’re in). The maximum time of a BBG Zero Equipment workout is 28 minutes, but on days you’re feeling time-poor, you can do an Express workout

These sessions take less than 15 minutes to complete, and like the rest of my BBG Zero Equipment workouts, they can be done anywhere, anytime!
