Banana Swaps For Your Smoothies

Bananas are one of the most common ingredients used in smoothies because they add flavour and texture. But a few girls have reached out to me because they are either allergic to bananas or don’t like them, and want to know what to use instead of banana in smoothies!

To help you out, I’ve put together a couple of foods you can use instead of banana next time you make a smoothie.

Avocado

Swap the banana in the recipe for approximately a quarter of an avocado and you will get a nice creamy texture. Just remember that avocado can change the flavour a little, so it might be best to use this swap in sweeter smoothie recipes.

Nut butter

If you want to add protein to your post-workout smoothies, then try using a little nut butter! It adds a creamy texture, so you can skip the banana, and it can help make the smoothie more filling.

Cauliflower

Okay, I haven’t tried this one but I know that cauliflower can help to make your smoothies thicker. The good thing about cauliflower is that it has a mild taste so it won’t overpower the fruit or other flavours.

Cottage cheese

Using cottage cheese in a smoothie adds protein, so it is a great one to use first thing in the morning to help kick start your day! The flavour helps balance out the natural sweetness of any fruit you use as well, plus it makes for a nice, thick smoothie!

If you don’t like the taste of cottage cheese, try swapping it for silken tofu instead.

Chia seeds

When chia seeds are added to liquid they expand, so they are a great banana substitute for smoothies! Plus, chia seeds are a superfood to keep in your cupboard. Not only are they high in protein and fibre but you can add them to almost anything. Swap one banana for a tablespoon of chia seeds and enjoy!

I hope these ideas help you out, ladies. If there are any other ingredient swaps you would like to know about, comment them below!
