Healthy Substitutes For Avocado
Avocado is definitely one of my favourite foods, but I know that’s not the case for everyone! For my ladies out there who just don’t get the hype around avocado, I haven’t forgotten you. These avocado alternatives are an easy, healthy swap!
Healthy Avocado Substitutes
If you hate the thought of avocado on toast, or guacamole, then these are a few easy avocado substitutes you can make instead!
1. Nut butter
A tasty natural nut butter (like peanut butter or almond butter) is a great swap for avocado! Nut butter provides your body with a little healthy fat, and you can easily add it to toast or spread a little on apple slices for a quick snack.

Love the vibrancy of smashed avocado? Then try making pesto and using that as a base instead! Grab the recipe for basil pesto (we used it as a topping on the pizza), and add some to your toast. Top the toast with a poached egg or a little sprinkling of feta cheese and you’ve got a super-tasty substitute for avocado.
A slice of toast layered with ricotta, sliced figs, a drizzle of honey and some crushed pistachio is the kind of mid-morning snack that will keep you satisfied for hours!
How can you go wrong with hummus? The creamy texture and the flavour makes it such a good substitute for avocado with toast. Spread it onto a sandwich, like this salad sandwich with beetroot hummus, or use it as a dip when you’re snacking.
Swap avocado slices for banana slices, or mash some banana to have on top of crackers or toast. It’s creamy and filling, with a touch of sweetness. Sprinkle over some chia seeds for a little extra fibre and protein.
Pureed edamame makes a fantastic substitute for guacamole, and it’s a filling snack! Keep some frozen edamame in your freezer, then steam, shell and puree in a blender. Spread it on top of toast, rice cakes or crackers for a quick snack.
