I know pizza is a dish lots of people enjoy, so finding a way to make it healthier is a win-win! I love to get in the kitchen and play around with different flavours or use toppings that you wouldn’t expect! That’s how you find new combinations that taste amazing, and you learn which of your favourite foods work really well on pizza. This Beetroot Hummus and Goats’ Cheese Pizza, for example, is a favourite of mine and it only takes 15 minutes to get ready!

Grab your pizza base and try out some of these simple pizza topping ideas:

Mushrooms

There’s lots of reasons to add mushrooms to your pizza! They add a whole new texture, and their savoury flavour can make it less tempting to load up on salty toppings. Mushrooms go with almost anything, but I love to combine them with rocket (arugula) and grate some parmesan over the top.

Here’s another good reason to throw on some mushrooms — they are filled with selenium, biotin, niacin and riboflavin — nutrients which are so good for healthy skin and hair!

Baby spinach

Try using fresh baby spinach to top your pizza, it’s a great way to sneak some more greens onto your plate (great if you have trouble getting kids to eat their greens!). Spinach is rich in vitamins A, C and K, as well as antioxidants. It even has anti-ageing properties, so there are definitely plenty of reasons to eat it!

For a really simple, healthy pizza that you can put together in a few minutes, try topping the base with some grilled chicken, fresh baby spinach, caramelised onion and feta cheese. Yum!

Roast pumpkin

Roasting the pumpkin really brings out the sweet flavour, which contrasts so nicely with red onion and ricotta! Try sprinkling the pumpkin with oregano and a bit of pepper before roasting it and then pop it onto the pizza with sliced zucchini, onion and ricotta. You could also add some sliced olives if you like those!

For those girls who don’t really eat pizza because of the thick base, you should give my cauliflower pizza base recipe a try, or use flatbread instead.

I’d love to hear what some of your favourite pizza toppings are — let me know in the comments below!

Love, Kayla xx
