An active and healthy lifestyle is something we should all aim for but it’s not always easy. I often have requests from girls wanting to know the ‘secret’ to being motivated to exercise. 

While ‘secrets’ or quick-fixes may not be the best solution, the good news is there are things you can do to make exercise part of your life. Here are a couple of ways to get started on your fitness journey and make it part of your routine.

Commit to it

Once you decide what exercise you’re going to do and how, make the commitment to actually do it. Don’t stress about the time of day you workout, just focus on getting it done! Don’t give yourself an opportunity to make excuses to skip your workout. Create a weekly schedule and do your best to stick to it, then reward yourself with something small once you do. 

Work out with a friend

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you this again! Exercising with a friend makes it more enjoyable and gives you plenty of social time too!

Track your activity

It feels satisfying when you can tick something off your to-do list, right? Keep tabs on how often you train and for how long — ticking each workout off is great positive reinforcement. By tracking your activity rather than physical results, you are less likely to be frustrated and want to quit if you begin to plateau.

Plus, you might be surprised to find you can fit more workouts into your week than you thought!

Focus on what you’ll do after your workout

Like many of us, you’re probably deciding whether or not you will exercise based on an emotional trigger. If you’re feeling tired after a big day, you’ll probably make excuses for yourself. Instead, try to tap into the logical part of your brain. Think about the long-term benefits of your workout, such as having more energy and being able to lift heavier weights. Soon you’ll come to associate working out with something that makes you feel good and it’ll be easier to make time for exercise!

Don’t quit

Exercise will only become a part of your life if you keep making time for it. Try to overcome the urge to quit, even when it gets tough or obstacles get in the way. Some weeks this may be easier than others but the important thing is not to give up!

Ladies, if you struggle to make exercise a part of your life, it’s okay. Don’t be upset with yourself. Just remember WHY you want to make changes to your lifestyle and try again. I hope these tips help you.
