Ways to use Greek yoghurt

Anyone that follows me on social media, or that uses my recipes, knows that Greek yoghurt is a key ingredient for me. It can be used to transform dishes into something brand new.

Here are a couple of suggestions for ways you can use Greek yoghurt to make something tasty!

Egg Salad

Lots of girls steer clear of egg salad because of the creamy dressing, but there is a healthy alternative! Instead of using mayo, try Greek yoghurt instead. It has a similar texture to mayonnaise, so you should end up with a salad that is very close to the consistency you are used to. Mix a little finely chopped dill and some pepper with the yoghurt and combine it with the hard-boiled eggs (once they have cooled, been peeled and chopped of course!). You can also mix in a little mustard for a stronger flavour if you like.

If you’re not a fan of eggs, you can also get creative with tuna and try a sandwich filling with Greek yoghurt, tuna and dijon mustard!

Greek Yoghurt Pancakes

These are the easiest pancakes and they are so tasty!

Prep time: 10 mins

Cook time: 10 mins

Total time: 20 mins
Serves: Makes 3-4 pancakes
Dietary preferences: Vegetarian, Nut-free

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ⅔ cup of Greek yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • milk of choice (optional)

  1. Place the flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl and mix until well combined. Whisk the eggs, maple syrup and yoghurt together in a second bowl until well combined. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. If the batter is a little thick, add a tablespoon of milk at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  2. Heat a large non-stick fry pan over medium heat and spray lightly with oil spray.
  3. Pour a ladleful of the batter into the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles rise to the surface and the underside is golden brown. Use a spatula to flip and cook for a further 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and loosely cover with foil to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining batter until finished.

Peanut Butter Smoothie

Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 1
Dietary preferences: Vegetarian, Gluten-free

  • 1 cup vanilla Greek yoghurt
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 medium ripe banana, frozen
  • 2 tsp peanut butter (or nut butter of choice)

Simply blend these ingredients together! If you like your smoothies a little sweeter, you may like to add a tablespoon of honey before blending again.

Enhance grilled meat with this delicious topping, or use it as a dip! Greek yoghurt makes it nice and creamy, without adding unnecessary salt or preservatives. I love this easy Tzatziki recipe that I’ve shared before.

Honeyed Walnut Crumble

This makes a delicious dessert and it is really easy to make.

Prep time: 5 mins

Cook time: 20 mins

Total time: 25 mins
Serves: Makes 1 cup of walnuts
Dietary preferences: Vegetarian, Gluten-free

  • 1 cup raw walnut halves
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • Greek yoghurt, to serve

  1. Preheat the oven to 180℃ (350℉) and line a baking tray with baking paper. Place the honey and cinnamon in a small bowl and mix until combined. Add the walnuts and stir, ensuring that all the nuts are coated.
  2. Spread the nuts on the lined baking tray. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until toasted to your liking, stirring every 5 minutes or so to prevent them from burning. Set aside to cool.
  3. To serve, place some Greek yoghurt in a serving bowl and sprinkle over the honeyed walnuts.

Greek yoghurt is one ingredient that is almost always in my fridge, because you can use it in so many ways! What’s YOUR favourite way to eat it? Let me know in the comments!
